Why become a Member? 

One of the benefits of being a member of the Bead Society of Victoria, is the opportunity to attend exclusive, member only, Bead Retreats. 

Whilst for many years, the Society has held a 'Summer Retreat', usually in January each year, in 2019, we will be changing our retreat to a Winter Program. The Retreat will kick off Thursday 4th July, ending Sunday 7th after a fun filled, crafty few days relaxing with all meals supplied.

More details about our Retreat will be issued to members shortly, so if you're not a member, now is the time to join, so that you can be a part of this relaxing, learning, creative and friendly environment. 

Registration details:

  • Friday 5th April 2019: Registrations open for full (Three day) accommodation

•    Friday 5th April 2019: Workshop registrations open only for those booking three day accommodation
•    Friday 12th April  2019: Two and one day accommodation + workshop options now available
•    Friday 19th April 2019: Day attendees may register for visits (and workshops if still available)

     Unravel the mysteries of the warped square. Get ready for Christmas early with these gorgeous stars. Great for gifts or to decorate your tree.
    (Original graphs supplied by the tutor. This class is spread over two sessions to enable homework to be done by students prior to construction.) Only one star will be constructed in class, but other patterns may be purchased separately from the tutor.

    Metal Etching & Embossing - Lynda Taylor

    Level: Novice to all levels            

    Kit: $45.00 - All tools & materials supplied

    A great introductory class for metal etching and embossing, where you will learn how to add texture & dimension to metal without the use of chemicals.

    During the class you will have access to a wide range of texture materials and tools to emboss or etch antique brass and be shown how to create a two-tone colour finish.

    The kit contains all of the pieces & materials you need to create 3 pendants and 3 pairs of earrings.

    Tools Required: All tools for this class will be provided – but if you have chain nose and flat nose pliers please bring them with you. Please also bring latex gloves if you do not wish to have black marks on your fingers.

    Decorate your very own personalised tape measure, using a ‘Painted Lady’ from ‘Touch of Glass’ or your own 2 inch round cabochon. It must have a flat back.

    Techniques: Peyote stitching, gluing and embellishment.

    Leather & Filigree Painting - Lynda Taylor

    Level: All levels            

    Kit: $45.00 - All tools supplied

    Let your inner Picasso out in this class to have some fun with colour, creating your own unique designs to turn into earrings, pendants or as a focal in your next design.

    Techniques: Leather texturing and cutting, and painting of leather and filigree metal.

    During the class you will have access to a wide range of paints to create your own designs on both leather and metal filigree. In addition to this you will have access to a wide range of tools and texture plates to add dimension to the leather.

    Samples shown are just a tiny example of the range of filigree, paints and leather on offer. Learn how to make leather thonging in your own chosen length. See more class and tutor details here.


    Tools: The kit contains all of the pieces & materials you need to create a number of pendants, earrings & focal pieces or time permitting a bracelet. However, if you have chain nose and flat nose pliers, please bring them with you. Please also bring latex gloves to avoid some paint splatter on your fingers.

    Come and join this exciting class where the emphasis isn't to make a new project, but instead focuses on learning tips and tricks designed to increase your confidence and expertise in completing all your pieces with the professional finish they deserve.


    Techniques: Discussion and demonstration of design elements and fine finishing techniques suitable for a range of pieces. Students may bring along a piece for inspiration. Images shown are just a sample of work.

    Boho Wrap Bracelet - Noelle Walker

    Level: Novice - All levels        

    Kit: $10 Available from tutor. List also supplied

    Students will explore the basic technique but will be encouraged to have their own creative input into this wrap bracelet. Use your own bead stash and the number of wraps and beads used is your choice.

    Techniques: Ladder bead stitching over leather tubing or alternative rope. Sliding Knot.

    Bijouterie Bracelet - Paula GethingClick to enlarge

    Bijouterie Bracelet is a project using the very popular glass carrier beads, odd count peyote and stringing. Using either the larger sized or smaller carrier beads,  you will create a unique, personalised bracelet with a toggle/string closure, simple to wear that will be much admired.

    Techniques: Peyote with graphed patterns.

    This will not be completed in class, but the techniques taught will enable completion later.
